I REALLY wish we could have a patch or fix for this game as I simply love playing it, in every aspect. If you see redist packages in there, install them all. And check the game folder in the common folder for King Arthur also. I can only suggest maybe making sure your C++ runtimes are all installed. Another user I asked about this problem said he sees the crashes very much increased when playing with or against UnSeelie and Seelie armies.
It is nice that you have seemed to narrow it down to maybe being caused by two certain spell combinations at least. And many of them are the same as mine, right before a battles. I have scoured the internet for hours, looking for a solution, and many others also report the crashse also. I have been thinking of testing the game on older DirectX runtimes and trying to force it to run on older ones, but not sure if it will help. I hate it too, as this game is really awesome. So I have found that only is helped and not prevented by saving and restarting the game often. I set up my army's positions, and then click start, then there is a quick freeze then.DING ! C++ runtime error. My crashes here always seem to happen only right before every 3 or 4 battles. From reading your reply, you seem to have better luck with the game. As long as you have exceptions for Steam and the game in Avast for real-time scanning, I highly doubt that it is your problem.
